I’m new to Houston, having relocated here in early August 2017 and would like to get involved with the group. The site is not clear but is there going to be a meeting on January 10th, 2018?

The purpose of this letter is to request the assistance of your organizationin dealing with issues that have an impact on young people. First, is the bullying of our son and the response of the school (see Principal Fuller’s comments below) and the school district. Second, is the lack of minority students in advance courses at Irons Junior High School (Conroe ISD school), and minority role models.

We are requesting your assistance and the assistance of colleagues, friends, contacts and any others individuals that may be able to assist in our dealings with the school (Gerald Irons Junior High School) and the school district (Conroe Independent School District, Conroe, Texas) regarding the bullying of our son, Mark Hernandez.

The school and School District tolerate, condone and justify bullying in the school that my son attends. In particular, Principal Fuller, has made remarks (see below), that should be considered discriminatory, unprofessional and misconduct of an educator.

We urge you to contact President Obama and any other individuals that may assist us in holding the school, school district and Principal Fuller responsible for allowing such behavior to be tolerated in our schools. Our complaint is with the U.S Department of Education- Office of Civil Rights ( OCR 06161507) In addition, as taxpayers, we do not want our taxes used to employ educators that tolerate, condone, and justify bullying and discrimination.

On April 13, 2016, while perusing our son’s telephone, we noticed he has sent an e mail to a friend stating he was depressed. When we confronted our son about the e mail, he stated that he was being bullied at Gerald D. Irons Junior High. Our son stated that in his physical education class, some students were calling him faggott, pussy, fat, and that he sucks. He was also told that “nobody like you” and his clothes were also hidden from him. In addition, in his Texas History class, a student also called him gay as well.

On April 13, 2016, we emailed Principal Fuller and asked that he contact us regarding the incidents with our son. Principal Fuller failed to respond to our e mail.

On April 14, 2016, we met with Principal Fuller, Assistant Principal Taylor and School Counselor Rodriguez to discuss the incidents with our son. Prior to the start of the meeting, Principal Fuller approached me in an irritated manner and stated that school hours are from 7:50 to 3:50 and he does not have access to his e mail. During the meeting, Principal Fuller stated that “calling someone a faggott, was not bullying, but was mean”.In addition, they wanted to blame our son, by saying that he should have reported it right away (these are teenagers). Also, they wanted to penalize my son by moving him, instead of the bullies. They even went as far as to justify the actions of the bullies, when Principal Fuller stated that they (bullies and their families) may not have the same values as our family (so it is justified to call someone the N word simply because of one’s culture?). The meeting was not very fruitful and was in fact adversarial in nature. The school and school district appear to have a mentality of “boys will be boys”.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Assistant Principal Taylor stated that the investigation would be completed on April 15, 2016. On April 15, 2016, the school sent a complaint form that needed to be completed (so how was the investigation going to be completed, if a complaint form was not even filled out?). We believe there was never an intent on the part of the school to conduct an investigation. Eventually the school concluded the bullying did not occur, but something did happen.

In regards to the second concern, Irons Junior High has over 1,100 plus students, yet only 267 Hispanic students are enrolled in advance classes, only 7 staff members are Hispanic and only 1 administrator is Hispanic. Clearly Irons Junior High and Conroe Independent School District do not hire or assign an appropriate balance of minority faculty and staff to act as role models.

We believe that the racism, bullying and discrimination in the C.I.S.D. will not disappear unless they believe their funding from the state and federal government is reduced or completely diminished.

We urge you to please get involved and use all your available resources at your disposal in our quest to rid this mentality held by Principal Fuller and the school district. I conclude with the statement that our son made when we found out he was being bullied “I feel like I have no place in this world”.

    Thank you

I recently relocated to Beaumont Texas from the central California area. I have looked at your website and see information from November 2015. Are you no longer active?
